Connect Zalando

Create your own app in the zDirect portal, give it read access and enter it on the connection page.

Before you start

neo-mcp connects to Zalando through an app that you create yourself in the zDirect portal, the same way your Shopify shop is connected through your own app. You keep control: the app has only the rights you give it, and you can take them away at any time.

  • You need a zDirect account that can create apps. Zalando asks you to be signed in as the developer admin of your organisation; the Administrator role in the portal has full access, the Developer role can only look.
  • You need an existing Zalando partner account with at least one merchant account. neo-mcp reads what Zalando has for it; it does not register you as a partner.
  • Plan five minutes. Nothing changes on Zalando while you follow these steps.

1. Create the app

  1. Sign in to the zDirect portal at zdirect.zalando.com as the developer admin. If you see an error page, switch to the right account first.
  2. Open Applications and click Create Application.
  3. Give it a name you will recognise later, for example "neo-mcp", and a short description such as "Read access for Claude".

Every new app starts in sandbox mode. You switch it to production in step 3.

2. Give read access

  1. Open the app in Applications and scroll down to Access Control.
  2. Choose your Fashion Partner and the merchant accounts the app may work for. One app can serve several merchant accounts of the same partner.
  3. Give the app read access to these services: the product data and product status, and the product attributes. If you want Claude to count orders and announced returns, add read access to orders too.
  4. Leave every write access off for now. Save with Edit Application at the bottom right.

The portal names the services itself, and the wording can differ slightly from the list above. You can only give the app rights that your own account has. If a merchant account is missing from the list, Zalando asks you to contact your fashion partner.

Orders contain your customers' names and addresses. neo-mcp drops them while reading and never stores them, and it reads orders only after the owner of your workspace has confirmed the data processing agreement.

3. Switch the app to production

Open the app. The message at the top says whether it is in sandbox or production mode. Turn on Production Mode. A sandbox app is fine for a first try, but Zalando shows no real product status in the sandbox, so the comparison with your shop needs production.

4. Enter the app in neo-mcp

  1. Open the app in the zDirect portal and copy its client ID and client secret. Zalando's guide does not say exactly where on the app page the two are shown; if you cannot find them, ask your Zalando contact.
  2. Open the Zalando connection page in neo-mcp, paste both values and choose Production (or Sandbox for a test app).
  3. Click Connect Zalando. neo-mcp asks Zalando once for access and reads which merchant account the app belongs to.

Never paste the client secret into a chat with Claude or send it by email. It belongs only on the connection page, where it is stored encrypted and never shown again.

Then ask Claude, for example: "Which of my products are missing on Zalando?" or "Why was my article rejected on Zalando?"

Later: changes on Zalando

Today neo-mcp only reads from Zalando. When changes to prices, stock or new listings become available, you decide again: open the same app, go to Access Control and give write access only to the service that change needs (prices, stock, or product data for new listings), then save with Edit Application. Zalando's guide says an app's rights can be changed at any time; it does not say whether the client ID and secret stay the same. If the portal shows you a new secret, enter it again on the connection page. This page will name the right each change needs once that change is available.

Taking access away

  • In neo-mcp: disconnect Zalando on the Zalando connection page. The stored client secret is deleted and Claude can no longer read anything from Zalando.
  • In the zDirect portal: in Applications, open the menu with the three dots at the end of the app's row and choose Delete Application. A deleted app cannot be restored.
  • To keep the app but stop the old secret, choose Regenerate Key in the same menu and enter the new secret in neo-mcp. Any other system that used the old secret stops working at once.

To reduce rights instead, remove the service under Access Control and save. Questions: see troubleshooting or write to info@neoautark.com.
